Villány Wines
Villány lies at Hungary’s southern tip, near the Croatian border, and basks in the country’s warmest winegrowing climate. Locals call it their “Mediterranean corner,” and you can taste that sunshine in the glass. Summers are long and hot, autumns mild, and the vines are planted on gentle slopes of loess and limestone interspersed with pockets of red clay. This combination yields reds that are plush, ripe and generously spiced, yet they retain a graceful structure thanks to the region’s cool nights.
The star of Villány is Cabernet Franc. Here, the grape has found a second home; top bottles even carry the protected appellation Villányi Franc. Cabernet Franc from Villány shows aromas of dark berries, violets and graphite, with plush tannins and a long, savoury finish.
Alongside it are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux‑style blends like Gere's Kopar, a benchmark cuvée that marries power with balance. You’ll also encounter juicy Portugieser and spicy Kékfrankos, each expressing Villány’s warmth with a Hungarian twist.
This collection celebrates Villány’s bold reds, from entry‑level blends to flagship wines. Expect rich fruit, hints of paprika and pepper, and silky textures that pair beautifully with grilled meats, stews and aged cheeses. For those seeking a taste of Hungary’s red wine powerhouse, Villány offers intensity, elegance and age‑worthy potential.
