Barta Wines
Perched on the steep slopes above the village of Mád in Tokaj, Barta is a beacon of revival. Once neglected terraces have been painstakingly restored, allowing the estate to honour Tokaj’s UNESCO‑listed heritage while embracing contemporary winemaking. Barta farms old vines of Furmint and Hárslevelű on volcanic rhyolite tuff laced with zeolite and red clay, producing wines that shimmer with acidity, minerality and finesse.
This collection highlights Barta’s dry Furmint – often from the revered Öreg Király vineyard – where lime blossom, pear skin and crushed stone meet salty tension. It also features the estate’s Tokaji Aszú, a benchmark sweet wine balancing apricot and honeyed richness with exhilarating freshness. The Mád Basin is a patchwork of volcanic rocks, and Barta’s wines express everything from chalky salinity to smoky depth.
Barta’s philosophy blends heritage and innovation: careful vineyard rehabilitation, spontaneous fermentations and judicious oak ageing ensure that each bottle tells the story of its site. These wines offer a taste of Tokaj’s past and future, making them essential for anyone seeking authentic volcanic wines.
