Kékfrankos
Kékfrankos (pronounced kayk‑FRON‑kosh, known as Blaufränkisch in Austria) is Hungary’s most widely planted red grape and the lifeblood of many blends.
Imagine Pinot Noir’s silkiness with a twist of white pepper: Kékfrankos delivers bright cranberry and cherry fruit, crisp acidity and a fine, spicy backbone that stands up to rich dishes. Its refreshingly modest alcohol and cool‑climate style make it a natural partner for Singapore’s hawker favourites such as duck rice, mala hotpot or black‑pepper beef.
This versatile grape appears across Hungary. In Sopron it tastes pale and peppery; in Eger it lends freshness and spice to Bikavér; around Lake Balaton it picks up a salty, floral edge. Alone, it offers sour cherry and red plum, cracked white pepper, clove and dried herbs, with medium‑high acidity and fine tannins. In Villány and Szekszárd, warmer conditions bring darker fruit and gentle smoke. Explore our range to experience the spectrum: from fresh, Pinot‑like styles to fuller, spicy expressions and as the backbone of Egri Bikavér.
