Villányi Franc
Villány, Hungary’s southernmost wine district, marries Bordeaux’s structure with Napa’s sunshine. Sheltered by the Mecsek Hills and bathed in a sub‑Mediterranean climate, it produces ripe, full‑bodied reds with smooth tannins and generous alcohol. Cabernet Franc has found its natural home here; British critic Michael Broadbent famously declared that Villány produces some of the world’s finest examples. The region’s appellation system reserves its highest “Super Premium” tier exclusively for outstanding Cabernet Franc labelled Villányi Franc.
These wines offer deep black cherry fruit, graphite and cocoa notes, layered with herbs and a savoury lift. Hungarian oak ageing adds gentle spice and a distinctive signature. Lush yet balanced, they bridge the gap between Bordeaux elegance and Napa opulence. Pair Villányi Franc with char‑grilled meats, Peking duck or pepper‑crusted steaks and experience how smooth tannins and bright acidity cut through rich flavours. Our collection features producers like Gere Attila, whose Villányi Franc 2019 exemplifies the region’s quality and ageing potential.
