White Wines

Hungary’s white wines are anything but generic. The country sits roughly on the same latitude as Burgundy and just north of Bordeaux, enjoying warm days and cool nights that preserve acidity and build complexity. This continental‑meets‑volcanic climate yields a spectrum of whites that range from racy and mineral to floral and creamy.

At the heart of the collection is Furmint, the backbone of Tokaj. In dry form it tastes like Chablis with a volcanic twist: sharp, mineral and flinty. Hárslevelű adds perfume and texture when blended, while Olaszrizling and the rare Juhfark offer almond, apple and smoky notes, especially when grown on basalt in Somló.

In Eger, Egri Csillag (“Stars of Eger”) is a floral, zesty white blend led by Leányka and Hárslevelű, showing orchard fruit, citrus and flinty precision. Mátra contributes aromatic Muscat and Traminer, while Badacsony’s Kéknyelű gives lush, savoury whites.

These wines excel at the table. Pair dry Furmint with seafood or laksa, Egri Csillag with sushi or salads, and Somló’s briny whites with salted cheese or sashimi. Whether you prefer crisp and linear or rounded and textural, this collection showcases why Hungarian whites deserve a spot in your cellar.
