Solus
Few Hungarian wines have achieved the near‑mythic status of Solus, the single‑vineyard Merlot produced by Gere in the warm, limestone‑rich vineyards of Villány.
The first vintage debuted in the late 1990s, and Solus has only been bottled in exceptional years since. It is made from 100% Merlot, hand‑harvested at extremely low yields and matured for almost two years in a mix of French and Hungarian oak. The result is a deeply coloured, luxuriant wine that mingles ripe black cherry, plum and blackberry with notes of cedar, cocoa and liquorice. Despite its richness, Solus retains a bright line of acidity and a long, mineral finish thanks to the limestone soils of the Villány foothills.
