𝗙𝗨𝗡 𝗙𝗔𝗖𝗧! The name Bullʼs Blood (Bikavér) comes from a Hungarian legend.
According to local folklore, the name Egri Bikavér (Bull's Blood from Eger) originated from the 1552 Siege of Eger by the invading Ottoman Empire. It is said that the captain of Eger castle used red wine to boost the morale of soldiers that were disheartened by the war. After drinking the wine, the soldiers regained their confidence and continued to fight. The Ottomans, having seen the red liquid dripping from their beards, were taken aback. News soon spread within the Ottoman army that the Hungarians had drunk blood - specifically the blood of bulls – because they were seen possessing superhuman strength.
But in actual fact (or so they say), the Hungarians were just drunk from all that wine.
