“Cabernet Franc has found its natural home in Villány.” Cabernet Franc from Villany is richer, deeper and far more defined, showing dark fruit, spice and limestone precision in one powerful, elegant expression.

Villanyi Franc 2019

About →

The nose opens with deep black cherry, ripe plum and wild forest berries, layered with hints of cedar, sweet tobacco and a touch of dark cocoa. There’s a warm, southern richness typical of Villány, but the vineyard’s limestone base brings a subtle lift and definition.

On the palate, notes of blackberry, cassis, graphite and a faint herbal edge give it both power and clarity. The oak is polished and well-integrated, adding structure without overshadowing the fruit. The finish is long, savoury and minerally, showing that classic Villányi Franc balance of ripeness and finesse.

Csillagvölgy, where this Villanyi Franc is from, is one of Villány’s most prized sites, a warm south-facing vineyard shaped by limestone and loess that give the wines both power and finesse. The slope captures generous sunlight, ripening Bordeaux varieties to full, dark-fruited intensity, while the calcareous soils add lift and a fine mineral edge. Known for producing some of the region’s most structured and ageworthy reds, Csillagvölgy shows Villány at its boldest and most refined.

𝗙𝗨𝗡 𝗙𝗔𝗖𝗧! Villány is the only Hungarian wine region with an official appellation dedicated entirely to Cabernet Franc. Labelled Villányi Franc, it represents the region’s signature style: deeply ripe fruit, warm southern structure and a uniquely Hungarian take on this classic Bordeaux grape. The style is so distinctive that locals joke it deserves its own passport.

Gere

The history of the Gere Attila Winery started 7 generations ago and the business, just like before, is run by all members of the family.

Respect for the soil, proper selection of varietals & technical precision in the cellar have all contributed to preserving and expressing the aromas and flavours true to Villány.

Attila Gere has taken it one step further by only using locally selected, indigenous yeast strains for the fermentation process.

This contributes to the character of their natural, individual, terroir-driven estate wines and we at The Wine Key are proud to be able to share these wines with you!
